White House Bulk Mail Files (Johnson Administration). 11/22/1963 - 1/20/1969. Jimmy Hoffa Trial Bulk Mail Files

1964

This series consists of mail sent to President Lyndon B. Johnson from July to August 1964. The letters and postcards sent to the President document public support for Jimmy Hoffa, president of the Teamsters Union, who was on trial for fraud and conspiracy in the handling of a union pension fund. The correspondence calls for the President to investigate whether or not Hoffa received a fair trial. Many of the letters and postcards contain negative comments about one of Hoffa's critics, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and strongly oppose rumors that President Johnson will add Robert F. Kennedy to the ticket in the upcoming presidential election.
